Week of 11/30-12/04

In the beginning of this week we had a test to sum up that unit and the rest of the week we started on the new unit. We started to learn about force diagrams. Its a lot of fun because their is a lot of acting out or participation during the lesson where excites me. Before we learned about motion diagrams which were horizontal and now force diagrams are a little alike and there vertical. One activity we did in class last week was Jeremy got up in front of the class and had a bowling ball in one hand. And in the other hand was a basketball. So we had to write a force diagram for Jeremy's actions and of course the hand with the bowling ball is going down because the weight of the bowling ball is much more heavier then the basketball. So to create a force diagram for you need three parts the force of the earth which is the arrow pointing down. The object which is his hand and lastly the force of his hands on each ball will be going up. The force from the earth will be equal for each hand hand the force of the hand on each ball will be different because the bowling ball hand will be using more force to keep it up. Its heavier then the basketball and the basketball will have a smaller arrow. We learned about force diagrams which I just explained to you and also number sentences for the force diagrams. All force diagrams are measured in Newtons. After the famous scientist Isaac Newton. Each ball will have different force diagrams because there two different things. The force of the earth for the bowling ball is -43N and the force of the hand holding the bowling ball up is positive 43 N. Then the final product of the number sentence is 43N + -43N=0N. The answer is 0N because the ball is not moving the force of the earth and hand balances out.
The science ideas I've learned this week was force diagrams and number sentences that go with them.
The real world application could be anything even my example some one holding a ball. Force diagrams can explain a lot of science experiments.
